  1. Long time, first time. I’m enjoying working my way back through the entirety of MASH with you guys, as I am just old enough to have grown up watching them in reruns. What’s interesting for me about the first season is how much it reminds me of old time radio shows, like the Jack Benny program. This is particularly true of episodes like this one, which is just a series of short vignettes. Many old time radio programs were structured the same way. Of course the writer on “Dear Dad..” is Larry Gelbart, who got his start writing for “Duffy’s Tavern,” one of the better old time radio shows.

    I don’t know if the writers meant is this way, but one reason why Hawkeye could have been upset by “Doctor Casey” is a way of showing that Hawkeye doesn’t care anything for regulations – unless they involve medicine. That’s the only thing he cares about.
